What a wonderful yarn – Organic Cotton by Babytoly

Today I want to talk about the yarn I used for designing my latest pattern Amigurumi bird rattle. When Ceren – an architect but also a founder and designer of Babytoly Organic Cotton yarns and baby knits – first contacted me and asked if I wanted to try her yarn, I didn`t know what to expect. Organic sounded very good (the yarn is GOTS Certified (Global Organic Textile Standard)) and I instantly fell in love with all these beautiful shades she had in the color chart. However, you know you cannot decide on a yarn before you`ve actually tried it. So after a couple of weeks of waiting my package with 4 colors of my choice arrived. It happened to be the moment I was just starting to make the rattles, so I thought organic cotton would be perfect for something intended for babies.
The yarn weight is DK / light worsted / 8 ply – so very popular among amigurumi makers (105 meters in 50 grams). Perhaps slightly thinner than my ideal yarn, but perfect for crocheting smaller animals and baby stuff. The manufacturer suggests crochet hook 2 – 4 mm (US 1-5), but my personal suggestion for amigurumi is 2.5 or 3 mm.
What I really love about this yarn is that it`s not elastic. It creates a strong surface, perfect for toys. We don`t want the nasty holes and stuffing being seen, right!
And I have to mention it again – the colors are awesome!!! I would really love to have the full range some day.
I have made 5 bird rattles so far and I´ve still got plenty of yarn to make some more. As you can see from the photo I have used a lot of blue. Now I can start making some chicken rattles, because I have quite amount of yellow left :)
