The Motley Rooster is a tricky bird. At first glance, it has a simple shape and design, but in reality, it’s an intriguing character that comes together in a rather interesting way—all with minimal sewing.
To begin, the legs and wings are made first. The body is crocheted starting from the comb on the top of the head, which smoothly transitions into the body, and at the right moment, the tail also takes shape. The legs are attached to the body in an unusual but effective way, eliminating the need for extra stitching. Only the beak and wattle require sewing, followed by a few embroidery details.
This amigurumi rooster pattern is also a fantastic way to use up leftover yarn. The comb, beak, and tail require only a small amount of material and can be crocheted in any color combination you like. The only part that needs more yarn is the body. You can also get creative with the legs—make them striped or mix colors depending on what you have on hand.
Design from lilleliis`s new Estonian book “Unustamatud lapsepõlvelelud”.
