Motley Rooster

Finally, Motley Rooster pattern is finished! I’m thrilled to share this pattern with you just in time for Easter.

The rooster design comes from my newest Estonian book published in September 2024. With this collection, I wanted to explore new styles, techniques, and yarns – keeping things exciting not just for me, but for you as well. And I believe I succeeded in creating a variety of unique and creative toys, each with its own special charm.

For me, the rooster is definitely one of the highlights of the book. With minimal sewing and only single crochet stitches, you can create an extraordinary toy! However, I don’t want to give the wrong impression that it’s all simple. In reality, this pattern is at an advanced skill level, so I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners.

Motley Rooster is a tricky bird. At first glance, it has a simple shape and design, but in reality, it’s an intriguing character that comes together in a rather interesting way.

The legs and wings are made first. The body is crocheted starting from the comb on the top of the head, which smoothly transitions into the body, and at the right moment, the tail also takes shape. The legs are attached to the body in an unusual but effective way, eliminating the need for extra stitching. Only the beak and wattle require sewing, followed by a few embroidery details.

This amigurumi rooster pattern is also a fantastic way to use up leftover yarn. The comb, beak, and tail require only a small amount of material and can be crocheted in any color combination you like. The only part that needs more yarn is the body. You can also get creative with the legs—make them striped or mix colors depending on what you have on hand.

I won’t lie, I was disappointed when my international publisher rejected the new book. But in a strange way, it also felt like a compliment. I had created something so different, so unconventional, that it made people hesitate. That told me I had truly stepped outside the mainstream which was one of the goals when starting with the new collection.

For you, my wonderful fans, I decided to publish all the book’s characters as individual online patterns—so you can still enjoy my crazy, quirky designs :)

I really hope you love the new Motley Rooster pattern!
