How to cover a wooden ring with crochet fabric – tutorial (video)

how to cover a wooden ring with crochet

You can make lots of fun baby rattles by yourself. One of the easiest ways is to use a wooden ring covered with crochet fabric and adding an amigurumi animal head on top of it. Be it a bunny, a frog or a fox – they all look super cute!

For the head you can use heads from different patterns (several heads from my free amigurumi patterns can be used for this purpose). The only thing you need to consider is the size. It should be in proportion with the wooden ring size. A too big or a too small head simply wouldn`t look nice.

Also, you need to cover the wooden ring and here`s where this tutorial comes in play. In this tutorial (link to video below) I will show you how to cover the wooden ring with crochet fabric. The technique is universal and you can easily adjust it to the size of the ring you are using.

For the cover you need to crochet a rectangular piece. I normally start with 25 chains.

STEP 1: make a chain about 25 stitches

STEP 2: Continue working in single crochet. Starting in the second chain from hook, sc in each st (I worked 24 sts).

STEP 3: Keep working rows in single crochet to achieve the length needed for the cover to fit around the wooden ring.

I worked 7 more rows starting each one with a chain, then working single crochet in every stitch.

STEP 4: If the piece is big enough to fit around the wooden ring, fasten off and leave a long yarn tail for sewing. Use the darning needle to sew the piece around the ring.
