Crochet goat with dress

It’s time to talk about the crochet goat named Mama Goat from the book “Unforgettable Childhood Toys” (available in Estonian only). Her story goes back to the year 2022, when a lady from a goat farm contacted me and wanted to order a crocheted goat, definitely with a dress. She had also searched for a sample photo on the internet, but of course I was interested in inventing my own goat.

I must say it was an exciting task. The goat girl was the first one. From a simple dress, I developed a dress with a collar and sleeves. The ruffled apron and the cotton lace ribbon at the edge of the dress give a slightly more rustic feel.

The customer repeatedly emphasized that the female goat must also have a beard, otherwise it is not real. At first it seemed a bit funny because we tend to attribute beards to males. But I got used to it and now she looks so nice with it. Her curvy body and strikingly nice leg  won`t let us forget that she is a mama :)

And then some time later a mister goat was also requested. While making him, I came up with the idea to make lighter embroidery around the eyes, and I really like the result. This is how the goat got its proper and truly personal face.

I accidentally forgot to make him a beard at first, so he got it after photographing.

In other aspects, the goat is the same. As a man, the curves of his body look like muscle instead. The pants turned out nice, but my heart belongs more to the girl outfit, as her look is more complete for me. The idea of suspenders could be used with other animals in the future, I have to remember that :)

It was so hard for me to keep the goat a secret from you. I thought they were nice and I really wanted to share the photos. The goat fitted perfectly with the concept of my new Estonian book, so the tutorial can now be found in this book and I am working on the PDF pattern right now.
