I did a little yarn test comparing Schachenmayr Catania and Ricorumi DK on the same bunny pattern. The idea was to make the same bunny (my favorite Sweet Childhood Bunny) with different yarns but in almost identical color scheme.
I wanted to see how similar or different the bunnies turn out. Also how much the yarn affects the final design and proportions. So I used light pink shade of both yarns and the same fabric on the ears and feet.
I´ll put some specific information below, but here`s how it started. Already when finishing the first 5 rounds, it was clear that Ricorumi bunny (on the right) is going to be slightly bigger. But that`s what you could expect, because Catania is a Sport weight while Ricorumi is DK weight.
The finished Ricorumi leg turned out taller and bigger in every meaning, yet the difference isn`t that huge. All-in-all the size difference on the finished bunnies is only 3 cm.
CATANIA BUNNY
Yarn used: Schachenmayr Catania
(2 skeins of 00433 rose gold needed)
Crochet hook: 2.5 mm
Safety eyes: 10 mm
Final size: 28 cm / 11 in
RICORUMI BUNNY
Yarn used: Ricorumi DK
(3 skeins of 065 blush needed)
Crochet hook: 2.5 mm
Safety eyes: 12 mm
Final size: 31 cm / 12.2 in
I think the main difference isn`t so much in the size but in the feel and sheen of the yarn. Catania bunny has a sheen while Ricorumi is matte. So it`s the matter of taste which one you like more.
One of the things I notice is that Ricorumi brings better out the triangle shape of the head which is one of the key features of the design.
Some people suggested the surface of the Catania bunny is more even. Maybe.
I tend to love the rougher and matte look as well as the depth of the color of Ricorumi better.
