Supplies:
- Yarn in white, black and orange color. I used Steinbach Wolle Capri (100% merino wool; 50 g / 125 m)
- crochet hook 3.5 mm
- little bit of polyester fiberfill for stuffing the eyes
- darning needle
Abbreviations:
sl st – slip stitch, ch – chain, sc – single crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), rep – repeat
- WORK IN CONTINUOUS ROUNDS. DO NOT JOIN OR TURN UNLESS OTHERWISE INSTRUCTED.
- IT WOULD BE WISE TO USE A STITCH MARKER AND PLACE IT IN THE FIRST STITCH OF EACH ROUND TO MARK THE BEGINNING OF IT.
- LEAVE EACH PIECE A LONG TAIL FOR SEWING.
EYE (make 2)
1: Use white yarn. Ch 2. Work 6 sc in the second st from hook = 6
2: Work 2 sc in each st around = 12
3: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times = 18
4: (Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times = 24
5-7: Sc in each st around
7: (Sc2tog) rep 12 times = 12
PUPIL (make 2)
1: Use black yarn. Ch 2. Work 7 sc in the second st from hook. Sl st in the first st.
Sew pupils on the eyes.
EYEBROW (make 2)
1: Use black yarn. Ch 16. Starting in the second st from hook work sc in each of next 15 sts = 15
2: Turn, ch 1. Sc in each of next 8 sts, sl st in each of next 7 sts.
BEAK
1: Use orange yarn. Ch 10. Starting in the second st from hook work sc in each of next 9 sts = 9
2-9: Turn. Starting in the second st from hook work sc in each st, so that in the end of round 9 you`ll have only 1 stitch left.
Without cutting the yarn work sc stitches around the piece for a neat finish. Make 2 sts in each corner.
BIG SPIKE
Use the same yarn and crochet hook as for the hat.
1: Ch 2. Work 6 sc in the second st from hook = 6
2: Work 2 sc in each st around = 12
3: Sc in each st around
4-11: Sc2tog, work sc in the rest of the sts.
By the end of round 11 you should have 4 sts left.
SMALL SPIKE
Use the same yarn and crochet hook as for the hat.
1: Ch 2. Work 6 sc in the second st from hook = 6
2: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep 3 times = 9
3: Sc in each st around
4-8: Sc2tog, work sc in the rest of the sts.
