Crochet Kawaii Cherry Brooch
Free pattern © Mari-Liis Lille
The fun and slightly naïve Crochet Kawaii Cherry Brooch was created for a workshop held on Japan Culture Day. The cherries are made using the amigurumi technique, while the leaves are crocheted in a traditional way around the foundation chain.
First, two cherries are crocheted, to which the leaves and stem are later attached. The stems are sewn together, and a brooch pin is fastened to the back.
Wooden beads are placed inside the cherries, adding weight and making them playfully dangle.
The crocheted cherry brooch can adorn your clothing, hat, or bag.
Supplies you`ll need:
- small amount of cotton yarn in red and green color, for example Scheepjes Catona or Schachenmayr Catania (50 g / 125 m)
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
- two wooden pearls (15 mm)
- darning and embroidery needle
- small brooch pin
Skill level: easy
Stitches and abbreviations (US crochet terms):
Magic ring, slip stitch (sl st), chain (ch), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), repeat (rep), stitch(es) – st(s)
About the Pattern:
- The cherries are crocheted in continuous rounds without joining the rows. The leaves are crocheted around the foundation chain.
- Use a stitch marker or a short piece of yarn to mark the beginning of each round.
- Leave a long yarn tail at the end of each piece for sewing.
cherry (make 2)
1: Use red yarn. Start 8 sc in a magic ring [8]
2: Work 2 sc in each stitch around [16]
3-6: Sc in each st around [16]
Insert a wooden pearl.
7: Sc2tog around [8]
To close the hole, weave the yarn through the front loops of all 8 sts of the last round and pull together tightly. Hide the yarn tail inside the berry.
leaf and stem (make 2)
Use green yarn. Ch 5. Work 3 hdc in the second st from hook, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sc + ch + sc in the last ch. Continue on the other side of the foundation chain: sc in next st, hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, sl st in the first hdc of the round.
Without cutting the yarn, crochet a stem of the appropriate length using chain sts. Leave a yarn tail for sewing, then attach a stem and a leaf to both cherries.
Cross the cherries so that the intersection point is just below the leaves. Sew the cherries together from there. Use the same yarn tail to secure a brooch pin to the back.
