This tutorial is about how to embroider a mouth on amigurumi. It`s the technique I´ve developed during the years and it works really well on both dolls and animals.
So why do I call it the perfect mouth? First, I`ve never wanted to use any other technique after discovering this one. Of course there are many other reasons, like it`s safe for babies, and allows to create smiley as well as sulky faces.
However, the most important reason for me is that with this technique you don`t have to follow a specific round where to embroider, which normally starts to dictate the shape of the line. With this technique, the lines are embroidered above the rounds. This means the mouth can be in any size or shape. That`s why I call it the perfect mouth.
What you`ll need:
- some cotton thread or thin cotton yarn – my favorite is iris thread
- sharp point needle
- a few pins
To make it as easy as possible, I´ve created a video tutorial showing exactly how I embroider a mouth on an amigurumi bee head that will eventually become a bee rattle.
Don`t forget, as with every technique, you need some practice before you find it coming out easily.
Enjoy! And leave a comment if you find it helpful.
Perfectly shown. Thank you for sharing your craft.
Thank you!
Excelente idea, para mi el bordado de ojos y boca ha sido complicado, practicare estas ideas, graciassss.
Great video!Using pins to hold the mouth shape and using a sharp needle are ideas I had never seen before. Thank so much!
Thank you. This is very helpful. 😊
Thank you for these great ideas. I am always disappointed with my work when it comes to putting the face on. I’m okay if I can use safety eyes but that can’t be done for babies and little kids. Will be trying this method very soon.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have always struggled with mouth embroidery.

Thanks so very much for your new video! Was a great refresher on how to do your perfect mouth technique. I also enjoyed seeing your beautiful butterfly rattle in baby blue colors 💜🌷
This is great for animals but not so much for dolls
I´ve used it on several of my dolls and can`t see a reason why this technique wouldn`t work there.
