Today I want to introduce you two very special dolls from the book “Lovable Amigurumi Toys”. Interestingly they have so very different stories behind them.
Those who are more familiar with my work, know that ragdoll theme has inspired me for some time now. It all started with a ragdoll inspired cat which I later wrote into a pattern, because it turned out that quite many people were fond of the design. Well, so was I and that`s why I decided to design a doll with the same basic construction. I am so happy how Annie turned out. The first version of her was the Weird doll, remember her? As I wrote in my blog I was happy with the body and legs, but not with the head and hair. But now you`ll see how the design was improved so it finally became perfect to me.
Annie probably isn`t the first doll that catches your eyes when you look at the gallery of the book, but I believe she will have tons of admirers after they`ve actually tried the pattern. She is so fun to make. The head and body (dress) are made in one piece. You will later add arms, legs and the wig. That`s it! I just have to add that the wig can be made of very different yarns and that way each doll can be given an entirely unique look.
The story behind baby Leo goes back to summer 2018, when our neighbors had their second little boy. I believe it was the baby next door that brought me to the idea of making a baby doll. He succeeded at the first try. What a relief!
My kids looked at the new doll and said: “He looks just like little Leo next door!” That`s how the doll got it`s name. The very first example of this baby doll was given to Leo as a thank you gift for being an inspiration.
Later I played with the idea of different expressions – smiling baby and crying baby. I must admit I adore the version with tears, although I prefer smiling kids in real life :))) How about you?
