This tutorial teaches how to start crocheting in the round with 2 chain method. Yes, starting amigurumi pieces with a magic ring (you will find the tutorial here) is the preferred way, but there are cases we need the other method as well.
For starting a piece with chain 2 you first need to create a slip knot. Follow the steps below:
1. Make a loop at about 10 cm from the end of the yarn so that the shorter yarn tail runs underneath the longer one.
2.Insert the crochet hook through the loop, from front to back. Grab the longer yarn tail and bring back through the loop.
3. Pull the loop tightly together.
4. Now you are ready to start chaining. Take the yarn on your hook and pull through the loop on the hook. Repeat twice. You`ve got 2 chain stitches.
5. Work the stitches of the first round (usually 6 single crochet) in the second stitch from hook (my hook is pointing to the stitch).
You are done!
The main difference between the magic ring and chain 2 method is that you cannot pull the ring together, so there will remain a tiny hole in the beginning.
